This is not only a highstreet trend, designers including Max Mara, D&g, Missoni and Chanel have all used c
osy, chunky knitwear with deer print, bobble scarves and hats, fur boots and gilets on their collections. Giving a nod to the Sound of Music and ensuring we’ll be staying warm throughout the cold winter.

Christmas Gift Guide

OMG, just one whole month until Christmas. It is crazy how quick the last year has gone. I remember last year telling myself that I will have all my Christmas shopping done by the end of November, but unfortunately something's just never change and I have not done any.
So now I am panicking and doing a lot of online shopping. I have come across some really fabulous gifts and I just have to share them with ye guys. This will hopefully give ye some inspiration for potential gifts for friends and family.

TREND ALERT - Metallics

http://uk.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/201389/rs_1024x759-130909165952-1024.shine.cm.9913.jpg

One of the hottest trends for A/W 2014/15 is metallics! These shiny shades are super on trend, and can amp up any look. Metallics are something I can't get enough of...I really am like a magpie.

The Highstreet is awash with metallic. From brushed metallics to sparkly sequins, all that glitters is worth its weight in gold this season! Its not just our usual Silver, bronze and gold shades we are seeing but more hues like electric blue and candy pink in foil finishes. Oh and have I mentioned the
metallic-shoe craze, they are a must have this season. This season we can go head to toe in metallic. You don’t have to be a night owl to rock this glitzy attire on the regular. While some sequined numbers are best reserved for evenings on the town, there are plenty of pieces (like the metallic sweatshirt) that totally work as daywear.

Some celebs we have seen rocking metallic recently are Heidi Klum on the red carpet in a stunning silver two-piece while lady of the moment Rihanna was spotted looking very demure in a floor length metallic maxi dress.

There is a crazy attraction to metallics.

The Perfect Fringe (Bang)

A fringe (or Bang as Americans call) is a great way of totally changing your look. They have been around for centauries and aren't going away anytime soon, they are constantly being reinvented so they stay fresh and modern. Put that scissors down!!! and see a professional because there is many different styles to suite a range of face shapes. I desperately want a fringe but I cant decide which one I like the most. Here is some of the most common and trendy fringes at the moment.

Seventies Split
This style suits most face shapes, however it is particularly flattering to those with squarer features. It is not the perfect fringe if you are conscious of your nose as the centre parting will draw attention to these features. It is great if you are growing your fringe out. It looks effortless cool. A celebrity who is well know for having this hair style is Alexia Chung (total hair envy). This fringe can really accentuate cheekbones and lips.

Similar fringes: The Duchess of Cambridge also has a fringe just like the one Caroline had cut on Friday

Baby Fringe
This show-stopping and striking fringe makes a statement and is best suited to those with petite, heart shaped faces. ends just before the middle of the forehead. You have a long face shape as it will elongate your features. And, if you have a round face, it will also make it look wider. This fringe length will also be difficult to style if, like me, you have a cows lick. This type of fringe really is a great way to make a statement with your hair. Gives attitude, impact and is seen as being bold and fashion forward.

FULL AND BLUNT CUT
This type works exceptionally well on oval face shapes and thicker hair textures. The lash-tickling length makes it easy to style.
By keeping the sides of the fringe slightly longer and curved, it'll slim down a wide forehead as well as hiding signs of ageing and ungroomed brows! woo whoo.

SOFT AND SWEEPING FRINGE
This easy-to-wear style suits nearly every face shapes but in particular on round and oval faces. This is the style that suits everyone! The trick is to ensure you get it cut to a length that flatters your face shape and hair type. If you are not brave enough for a full fringe this is perfect. For many years I chose to have one of these as it is a great option if you have a dastardly cow lick.

I hope this has helped you chose the perfect fringe for you.

And so it Begins

Hi everybody,
As ye may have already guessed, my name is Katie Murphy. I am a second year Fashion Management student at Robert Gordon University Aberdeen. As part of my Fashion Communication module, we have to set up blogs (something I have been meaning to do for ages). I have decided to call mine QuarterCentury, because as of last week I am now a quarter of a century old (weep, weep). I will be using QuarterCentury to talk about Fashion, beauty and all the creative and random things going on in my life.
Just like all my birthdays, this one was used as an excuse to buy myself more gifts than I deserve. One of my favourite purchases is this ASOS fur scarf, which I am wearing in the above picture. Unfortunately this particular scarf is sold out, but don’t worry ASOS have a huge range of fur scarfs to choose from. Below are just some of my favourite picks (click on the pictures to follow the links).

Okay, this seems like enough rambling for my first post. I hope ye enjoyed reading and keep checking out my blog for some exciting posts in coming weeks.
